中国革命历史故事(六),Zhōngguó Gémìng Lìshǐ Gùshì Liu

Title:  中国革命历史故事(六),Zhōngguó Gémìng Lìshǐ Gùshì Liu

Authors: 王恩荣,Wang En Rong/ 南新宙,Nan Xin Zhou

Summary: The first chapter chronicles Mao Zedong’s role in the Chongqing Negotiations of 1945. Mao and other Communist government officials, including Zhou Enlai and Wang Ruofei, board an airplane and fly to Chongqing. Authors explain why (in their view) Chiang Kai-Shek wanted to hold the talks. Mao’s coming heralded as a sign of peace. KMT (Kuomintang or Chinese Nationalist Party) and CPC (Communist Party of China) choose their negotiators; Mao has heated exchange with Wang Shijie. Mao and Zhou meet Democratic Party members. Mao meets with left and right wing KMT party leaders, encounters a flustered Chiang. KMT completely unprepared for talks, CPC negotiators are left to submit the only proposals. KMT refuses many of the CPC’s logical proposals, so CPC saves negotiations by making many concessions. Talks end with “Summary of Conversations Between the Representatives of the Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China” or “Double Tenth Agreement.” For a Western author’s perspective lookup “Mao v Chiang: Battle for the soul of China” (Jonathan Fenby, The Times, Oct. 31, 2003) at lib.byu.edu.
